National Trust Hackathon for Assistive Devices for Persons with Intellectual & Development Disabilities,Last date of entries - 1st February. 2018

National Trust is an autonomous body of Government of India in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment working for socio-economic empowerment and rehabilitation of Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDDs), namely, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation & Multiple Disabilities. The National Trust is working with the State Governments and 700 NGOs registered with the National Trust located across the country to deliver various schemes ranging from early childhood intervention to skill training to awareness creation and offering adult residential facilities. For inclusion of Persons with IDDs, the Trust has launched a vibrant campaign called the Inclusive India Campaign for creating inclusion of persons with IDDs in Education, Employment and Community Life. With a young team of dedicated professional people, National Trust is an open, democratic and creative place to work.

With a view to elicit creativity and expertise of students of Engineering, Colleges across the country, National Trust is planning to organize Hackathon in which teams from all the engineering colleges can participate by submitting their entries on creating new assistive devices for persons with Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDDs) or making an innovative change in existing devices to make them effective from persons with IDDs. A team of experts from engineering colleges and NGOs working in the field of possibilities will be constituted to finalize the 10 best entries who will be invited to make presentation before Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of social Justice & Empowerment and they would also be honoured in the presence of HonĂ¢€™ble Minister, Social Justice & Empowerment. The winning entries will get attractive cash prizes too.

Submission of Entries

The Participation entry should contain a detailed concept/idea/formulation/Architecture of new assistive device to be used by children/adults with intellectual and development disabilities, or a substantial improvement in an existing device. WHO report on Assistive Technology may be referred to by the participants to get the basic idea about the concept. The report is at:

o The entry may be in any form - MS Word, MS PPT, video or any other form.
o It should be forwarded by the Institution.
o Last date of entries to be received will be 1st February. 2018.
